Nevada Telemedicine Policy
Nevada Telemedicine Policy
For a long while, Nevada’s telemedicine policies were receiving failing grades by ATA standards, but things have started to look up. Nevada has gotten rid of its arbitrary restrictions on telemedicine and is increasing what types of services are covered. Great news for telehealth care providers!
Plus, Nevada is now a member of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. That’s an exciting step forward for out-of-state doctors who want to practice telemedicine in Nevada.

Additional State Telemedicine Info
Parity Laws
In May 2015, Nevada passed a parity law that requires coverage and reimbursement for telehealth under private insurance, Medicaid and worker’s compensation plans, at rates equivalent to in-person care.
Nevada is the only state that includes workers compensation in its telemedicine parity law!
Medicaid
While Nevada’s Medicaid program used to only cover telehealth care for patients in underserved, rural areas, the program now covers it state-wide! Currently, Medicaid reimburses for live-video and store-and-forward telehealth solutions.
Type Of Telemedicine Covered
Nevada’s Medicaid program covers live video and store-and-forward telehealth services at the moment. Hopefully, the state will expand reimbursement for remote patient monitoring solutions in the near future.
Covered Health Services
Nevada Medicaid will cover medical care delivered over live video telemedicine, as long as the care is comparable to in-person services and follows Medicaid guidelines. Note that end stage renal disease care requires at least one face-to-face visit. The program does list a few specific excluded services, which you can reference here.
Eligible Healthcare Providers
Nevada does not have any restrictions on which healthcare providers can practice using telehealth technology.
Online Prescriptions
All online prescriptions must follow standard Nevada prescribing laws.
Informed Patient Consent
Osteopathic physicians should get verbal and or written patient consent on the risks, benefits, and privacy terms of telemedicine.
Cross-State Telemedicine Licensing
Nevada has become part of the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact! This allows out-of-state providers to more easily get licensed in the state and provide telehealth to patients in Nevada.
Restrictions On Locations
Nevada recently removed its law requiring a telepresenter to be on-site with the patient during telemedicine services. And telemedicine is now available statewide as opposed to only rural areas.
Reimbursement Rates
Reimbursement rates for telemedicine must be equivalent to an in-person visit, regardless of the payer.
Billing Codes
For billing telehealth services in Nevada, use the appropriate CPT code along with the GT modifier.
